'And sometimes we'd give the same nickname to Marie because she had such an eye for the men. Olga used to tease her and--’ Stop! I forbid you. I forbid you to bandy those names. ‘They are my sisters. I can speak of them if I choose.'

Note
I'm really sorry, but I'd like to say that Anastasia is NOT a Disney musical. The film is done by the 20th century fox, not Disney, and that film is based on the play "Anastasia" by the French playwriter Marcelle Maurette. The conmen, the amnesia, the name Anya, the Dowager Empress, Anya potentially being Anastasia are some of many things that originate from the French play, not from that American film. (But I understand your point, and I'm not a hate anon, don't get me wrong, please)
Thanks for the info!
To be quite honest, I don't really know what to make of this ask – I mean, The Lion King is based on Hamlet, but it's still an animated movie all the same – but I didn't know about the play, so it's pretty interesting nevertheless. Hope you have a nice day, anon!

Parisian playwright Marcelle Marie Josephine Maurette’s exciting play Anastasia was first produced at the Theatre Antoine in Paris in 1951. Presented on television in England in 1953, the English translation of the play by Guy Bolton was optioned by Sir Laurence Olivier, who produced it at St. James’s Theatre in London on August 5, 1953. The play was received with acclaim for 117 performances. Seventy-nine-year-old actress Helen Hayes, who had spent fifty-five of those years on the English stage, was praised for her striking performance as the Dowager Empress, a role that became her greatest triumph in the English theatre.

Photos from the original Broadway production of Anya The Musical Musical. As far as I know, this show is the first musical adaptation of the Anastasia myth. It is primarily based on Marcelle Maurette’s original play Anastasia. The show’s music is based off of music by Rachmaninoff. Constance Towers starred as the titular character, and Lilian Gish played Maria Feodorovna, the former empress of Russia. Derided as an old fashioned operetta, the show opened on November 29th 1965, and closed after only 16 performances. It was reworked many times under many different names, most notably as The Anastasia Affaire. This production had a cast recording released in 1992 which featured such notable names as Judy Kaye, Len Cariou, and Steve Barton. Interestingly, one of the last names this show was marketed under was Anastasia, the musical.
Photos are from The New York Public Library.
